I think it must be time to take a short break, and rather than simply leaving the last few posts sitting there for most of August, I thought I would put together a brief summary of what I write about here and maybe encourage you to take a look around.
Naturally, I write quite a lot about Life in Hong Kong, on subjects such as taxis…
- Van Blanc (5-seater taxis are to be introduced in the New Territories)
- Go the back of the queue (Airport Authority decides to make it more difficult for their customers to save money by booking taxis over the phone)
- Inconvenient (as intended) (customers complain about this new policy)
- Only in Hong Kong (taxi drivers complaining about too much competition)
.. and there’s lot of Gweilo angst about how horrible Hong Kong can be…
- Walking and talking (Some Hong Kong people can’t use their mobile phones and walk at the same time)
- Walking and talking (aha – repetition)
- Walk the Walk (walking in a straight line seems to be a challenge for many people)
…and moans about a certain very profitable and sometimes rather annoying bank
- Do It Yourself (what’s wrong with Internet Banking)
- Still in the dark ages (problems getting an ATM card replaced)
- Always look on the bright side (increased charges)
- Apology (a long wait)
Hong Kong TV is another obsession of mine (there’s even a category for Television).
- Better late than never (TVB and ATV do buy some decent programs, but…)
- Too much? (Are PCCW charging too much for the EPL)
- The Apprentice (The US version, shown on TVB Pearl, and the UK version, which isn’t)
And don’t even get me started on the South China Morning Post….
The normal front page is here, with the most recent posts (including the following that are not mentioned above):
- Do you take Sugar with that? (Amstrad is sold to Sky)
- Do it yourself (companies cut costs by letting customers do stuff for themselves)
- Surely SIM mistake (warning – don’t give someone your old SIM card)
- Lost and found (if you leave a phone in a public place will it be returned?)
- Odd policies (why is the HK government stopping private car drivers using diesel and LPG?)
- Vinyl is back (if it ever went away)
- Kitchen sink (this product might contain peanuts, arsenic or smelly tofu, but we really can’t be bothered to check)
- Giving it all away (a Prince CD free with the Mail on Sunday)
- Different rules (the curious case of Carlos Tevez)
