I just knew this would happen.  After being given 90 days credit for my pizza, I forgot to pay the bill when it eventually arrived.  So the nice people at DBS charged me HK$150 "late fee" and HK$10 "finance charges".

Yes, I know it’s my own stupid fault, but I can’t help wondering what kind of sense it makes to upset customers in this way when you are simultaneously putting so much effort into marketing and promotions.  Bring ’em in, then drive ’em away.

Couldn’t you in any way talk them through it? It’s like shopping in Grand bazaar when dealing with the credit card companies in Hong Kong.
At least it works most of the time when dealing with some telecom or utilities companies.
So now ya pizza costs you 150+10+80 = 240hkd,probably the most expensive pizza from pizza hut anywhere in the world.

Denis – I did phone them to complain, and I am sure that I could have got them to refund the stupid fee, but I got more satisfaction from just shouting at them. Maybe they will refund the fee anyway.
Fumier – well it had cheese on it, so obviously yes.

Never ever buy durians on credit. It is really complex trying to return the blessed things if you don’t really want them after all.

Er? Why didn’t you just pay them cash when the pizza arrived? Credit pizza – gimme a break!

I would call it “Chinese logic”: customers are ‘fined’ for being “stupid”.
Once I rented a flat with brand new split-type air-conditioners, but no user manual. No matter how I fiddled with the buttons I never quite got the desired results with the cooling. I would have thought that a user manual should be downloadable from the dealer’s website. Not so. Called the dealer. They said only hard copies are available, and each would cost $50. Why? They said as a hard copy comes with each air conditioner, I should pay to get an ‘extra’. No doubt that $50 is a fine for my “fault”.

But Ken, from the dealer’s point of view you are not their customer, rather your landlord is. Why not ask your landlord about it instead?
