Following on from the discussion about the BB Box, and how to get video from a computer to a TV, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it is possible to put about an hour of high-definition video on to a CD and play it on a DVD player (I think it has to be one that supports DivX).

I suppose it isn’t as good as HD-DVD or Blu-Ray but it is much better than VCD, which was the previous standard for video on a CD – and both DVD players and blank CDs are very cheap these days.

I’m sure everyone else has been doing this for several years, but I’ve only just discovered it.

Why not just buy a DVD burner and burn the video to a DVD directly? A good quality burner can be had for around $300.

I could burn a DVD, but what surprised me was that 1 hour of video fitted on to a CD (and that the quality is much better than a VCD).

Would you mind very much if I quickly spammed your face and plugged a website? Feel free to delete this once you’ve read it, I just wanted to tell you about something and couldn’t find your email.
Anyway, remember Icered? The bile filled message board that’s now fallen off the face of the Earth? I’m basically trying to recreate a similar thing, hopefully with less of the bile, at http://www.banzat.com
It’s just a forum really, for Hong Kong people. Nothing special really. Just trying to be a less obnoxious alternative to some of the ‘expat’ forums. It’s brand new and thus totally empty and quiet at the moment. The ultimate aim is that it won’t be completely crap.
I’ve copy & pasted this same message on a small handful of HK blogs, for extra-spammy effect and ultimately because I’m lazy. But also because you’re one of my favourite read-every-day blogs, so suck on that.
    Danke!
