I know nothing about typhoons, so can anyone explain why the Observatory think that this one is heading for Hong Kong? Surely it could end up anywhere?

I am no meteorologist but depending on the expected wind currents at certain times of the year aside from the presence and/or absence of other storms/tropical depression within the vicinity, the path of the storm in question can go straight or veer left or right. That what makes them very unpredictable. When I was living in Manila, I have actually seen one storm backtrack! Another storm became stationary for a day, All because of something else in the weather system across Asia
